Market Tracking » Performance of New Entrants

When new players enter a market, competitors attempt to gain market intelligence into their performance. Analysing weekly sales results for both the new entrant and other players enables immediate insight into the sales results being achieved both overall and by segment.

Airline Industry - V Australia and Delta Entering the Sydney to Los Angeles Airline Route

The chart below sets out the monthly direct booking credit card sales for the two new entrants into the Sydney to Los Angeles market, Delta and V Australia, for the twelve months to 30 June 2009. United is also shown for comparison. Qantas and Air New Zealand are not shown due to the number of other routes they also fly.

V Australia had strong sales during its July 2008 launch and steady sales in the months prior to its first flight at the end of February. Delta has had mixed sales in the three months prior to its first July flight.
